Breathing Landscape is a striking new work from violinist Leslee Smucker, showcasing her innovative spirit at the intersection of classical and experimental music. Inspired by Muriel Rukeyser’s 1935 poem of the same name, the album was recorded inside an abandoned water tank in rural northwest Colorado, allowing the violin’s sound to intertwine with the natural resonance of the space.

With sweeping minimalistic structures punctuated by moments of brash, percussive precision, Smucker creates a sonic environment where every note explores the boundaries between instrument and acoustic setting. Included in Bandcamp’s “Best Experimental Music of February 2024,” Breathing Landscape invites listeners into a world of shifting textures and immersive, reverberant beauty.
