Heavee is a Queer Chicagoan DJ and producer with deep roots in Chicago's footwork scene, and Unleash marks a bold leap forward in his artistry. Released in 2024 on the acclaimed Hyperdub label, this album builds on the synth-driven, melodic foundation of his 2022 Audio Assault EP, pushing into richer, more ambitious sonic territory with a fresh, spongy sound palette and vibrant chord sequences that balance light and dark in equal measure.

Unleash is a masterclass in genre-blending creativity, using footwork's 160 BPM framework as a springboard while drawing from R&B, rap, jazz, grime, and vintage Detroit techno. Heavee rebuilds footwork's rhythmic DNA to his own unique specification — at times breezy and airy, at others minimal and clinical — resulting in an album that is both dancefloor-ready and genuinely adventurous.
